Bullies Never Win by: Margery Cuyler

Jessica does not know what to do when she is confronted with someone that picks on everything she does no matter what.  Brenda Bailey is the thing that worries her most, and she needs to figure out a way to rid herself of the bully once and for all.

This book has illustrations that remind me of water colors because some colors are transparent, but I really enjoyed them.  This is a concept that will be central to my classroom, and I could use this to begin the school year by teaching about bullying.  The characters are very relate-able and the main character talks to her family in this book, too, which makes it relate-able for students.

Fancy Nancy Explorer Extraordinaire

 Nancy and her Best Friend Forever, Bree begin exploring the outdoors to find bugs, birds, and anything in between.  The six rules of membership must be followed, or else that isn’t being respectful (that’s a fancy word for saying nice).  Will her brother be able to join the club?

The illustrations in this book are incredible! I think that this book is visually appealing which makes it more enjoyable for students to read.  For this example, not only would the typical girly girl be interested, but it discusses camping, insects, and other outdoor adventures which are not Fancy Nancy's usual theme! I would love to incorporate this into a science class, and see how I could connect it to the content we are studying.  Also, the vocabulary that she uses would be a fun way to introduce word choice, and descriptive writing.  i was surprised to see how much I could do with a book such as this one!
