Thank you, Mr. Falker

This story tells the autobiographical tale of Patricia Polacco’s journey in learning how to read and how her fifth grade teacher, Mr. Falker, ultimately changed it.  No child's enjoys struggling with reading, and this story shows the power and influence that a teacher can have on a student's future.

This book would be  important to share with a class that is beginning to learn how to read, especially with those students that do not believe in their abilities.  The illustrations are beautiful and provide excellent reinforcements to the text.  I think that because it is an autobiography, and now the struggling reader in the story is an author, shares a message of hope and perserverance with the students. I would love teaching a lesson using this theme and continue with a writing activity, or self-reflection.  Great story, and what a tear jerker!
