Insectlopedia

Insectlopedia
by: Douglas Florian
Florian, D. (1998). Insectlopedia: Poems and paintings. San Diego: Harcourt Brace.

The collection of poems in this book all take different shapes, tones, and styles to describe one of the many insects that live in our world.  Told in simple language able to be understood by students, this book will be not be one on the bookshelf, rather one that students pass around.
I loved looking at this book because each page has such a unique style. I think that this would be so easy to teach poetry, especially the variety that every poem has depending on the topic and tone of the text.  Students can be afraid of poetry because they are not exposed to it.  It is through books like these that we as teachers have the power to introduce them to poetry from a young age and encourage their writing through this form.
